Short Courses & Workshops
We run a series of Short Courses and Workshops throughout the year, please see Upcoming Courses & Events for information.
The courses are held during the half-term and holiday breaks and run from 10am-4pm.
The 4/5 day courses include a sketch club after class on Monday.
UP NEXT:
October Foundation Course
A four day intensive course suited to all levels.
Students receive instruction in the fundamentals of drawing and painting, working from plaster casts and still life set-ups. The students will have completed a set of drawings and oil paintings.
October half-term, Monday-Thursday
December Short Course
A course for all levels.
For each of the four weeks in December students focus on a different discipline beginning with Foundation and progressing through Portrait, Material, Still life or Sculpture Portrait. Artists and students can select a single or combination of weeks to meet their needs and interests.
July Courses
This summer programme is the perfect immersion in fine arts training.
For each of the four weeks in July students focus on a different discipline beginning with Foundation and progressing through Figure, Portrait, Landscape or Sculpture. Artists and students can choose to commit for the full four weeks, layering their knowledge and skills over the month; alternatively they than can select a single or combination of weeks to meet their needs and interests.
Materials Workshop
Scott Pohlschmidt, Director of Lavender Hill Colours art store, runs regular 2 day, full day and half day workshops.
Exploring the make-up of the artist’s materials from oil paints to brushes, from preparing your canvases to the finishing touches of your work. These are hands-on sessions. These workshops are also given in partnership with Rosemary & Co. Artists’ Brushes, Michael Harding oil paints and Natural Pigments.
March/April Still Life & Flower Painting Course
All levels admitted. The course begins with a review of the fundamentals before considering in detail colour theories, composition and paint application.
Students work from a variety of still-life set-ups.
Pastel Portrait Workshop
All levels welcome. The workshop will cover the elements in creating a pastel portrait from start to finish. We will look at materials used, starting with portrait drawing block ins with sanguine to the different colours and temperatures, and various techniques of layering and blending.

Felicia Forte London Workshop
A 3 day still-life and/or 4 day portrait course learning the skills of Alla Prima painting.

September 4 days drawing, 3 days painting. Henry Yan is a regular contributor to London Fine Art Studios academic calendar. He originally trained in China and is now based in the USA where he teaches at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Yan is a master draughtsman whose work is characterised by attention to anatomical detail and powerful gesture.

Recommended Further Studies:
We encourage students to compliment their studies by taking the time to visit exhibitions and practice sketching in museums. In addition, the Studios host a range of events throughout the term aimed at enhancing the artist’s understanding of their craft and the tradition that they are working within.
