A four-day intensive course suited to all levels. Students will receive instruction in the fundamentals of drawing and painting, always working from life. The course follows sequential steps, each lesson leading onto the next so that at the end of the four days students will have acquired an understanding of working from life, using charcoal and oil paints.
The first half of the course is in charcoal, learning mass drawing. This leads onto oil painting for the second half. Both mediums teach the fundamental principles of drawing and painting in mass, as opposed to line. Topics will include proportion, gesture&volume, values, edges and colour. Students will initially learn how to judge proportion & gesture, moving onto cast drawing before finishing the course with still life. Students receive plenty of individual critiques, in addition to group demonstrations.
