Week 6-7

The first couple of lessons after half term were spent revising what we’d learnt before the break, as well as realising what had been forgotten – a week out of the studio is a long time! My drawing of the ‘Neapolitan Fisher Boy’ was the first portrait plaster cast that I’ve worked from and although difficult to depict, I enjoyed working from a more complicated cast and challenging my drawing skills.
During week 7 we were introduced to oil painting in grisaille, which was great fun as we learnt how to apply our draughting techniques to a different medium. We were also instructed on how to arrange paint on our palette and how to use a monochrome palette to show the shadow shapes within our compositions. I really enjoyed painting the female torso cast and learning how to portray her angles and edges, as well as remembering to be decisive with my brushstrokes – a big brush definitely helps!
